How far ahead do I need to book? Because I am an artisan baker I am careful not to over commit myself thus I recommend booking as soon as possible. Popular dates can be booked as much as three to six months in advance. Other times of year 1-2 months are generally sufficient. I typically do not do cakes on short-notice however if I have the time and all the materials on hand it may be possible! Request an appointment
What is the best way to reach you? Email, by far! I check it very frequently and I like to confirm things in writing.
What is fondant? Rolled Fondant is a decorating medium with a dough consistency that gives an ultra smooth and elegant decorating surface to cakes. Some fondants do not taste very good however mine does! I make my own fondant with white chocolate and roll it very thin. There is a layer of creamy white or dark chocolate truffle ganache or buttercream under the fondant so you have the best of both worlds. Very few people do not like my fondant, for those who prefer it without they can simply eat around it as one would not eat a pie crust.
Do you offer tastings? Yes, I offer one free tasting of up to 4 flavors for cakes serving 100 or more. If your cake serves less than 100 you can order a tasting of 4 flavors for $25. Since I do bake samples fresh for your design appointment I ask for 48 hours notice if your appointment must be rescheduled or cancelled.
How does the design process work? I love to hear about your ideas for your cake! Please share your dreams (& fears) about what your perfect cake will look and taste like...colors, shapes, cake photos, setting, flowers, dress details are all inspirational tools that we can use to come up with the perfectly unique cake for you. There are limitless possibilities. Don't worry If you don't have any ideas - I have plenty of photos to browse. There is a lot to cover in the hour appointment thus I do ask that you limit the number of participants to no more than three with two being ideal. Following your appointment you will receive a quote for your cake. While there is no pressure to book your cake at your appointment please understand that I do not consider your date booked until your $100.00 retainer is received.
What is your delivery fee? Wedding cake lore says that you can only trust two people to deliver a wedding cake – the person who made the cake and the person who’s paying for it! Do you really want the responsibility of delivering a tiered cake? While this may be practical for some smaller cakes it is probably not a good idea for the larger ones. Plus, you probably have a lot of other things to do with your time on your important day than picking up a cake. If you do go this route, rest assured that I will structure your cake very firmly for pick-up. You will need an air-conditioned vehicle with enough space to put the cake on the floor of the car, not the seat. I will also ask you to sign a waiver that the cake was in good condition when you picked it up.
Delivery fees are $1.00 per mile ($2.00 roundtrip) with a $30 minimum and is based upon a mapquest.com mileage estimate from Clarke’s Restaurant, 455 Second Street, Lake Oswego, OR 97034. This fee includes basic set-up at your location, making any repairs necessary and placing (minimal) flowers on the cake (flowers must be available at the time of delivery). Extensive flower arranging should be arranged for with your florist or an additional fee will be added. Flowers will need to be provided by your florist unless otherwise arranged.
Do you do Birthday or Other Occasion Cakes? Yes, I love doing other types of cakes too! You may wish to upsize the serving size for this type of a cake, since typically larger sizes are desired at these events.
Do you do cupcakes or mini cakes? Yes, I do! Plain, buttercream-frosted cupcakes start at S2.50 each. Mini cakes are as quoted but are generally fairly labor intensive, thus expensive. Cupcakes or minicakes can be topped with an initial monogram, sprinkles of many types, or beautiful fondant flowers to match your color scheme. Decorations are in addition to the base price. There is a minimum of 1 dozen per flavor.
